The Hatfield Against Incineration (HAI) campaign group, Friends of the Earth, North Mymms Greenbelt Society, and residents of the soon-to-be-blighted areas (particularly Hatfield and Welham Green) turned up for Hertfordshire County Council's Development Control Committee meeting where a decision on granting planning permission for HCC's pet project was granted – by HCC. Access to the chamber was restricted and a very limited amount of space was available in another room with an audio connection (which must have been hard to follow as even those in the chamber found it difficult to know who was speaking).
