As the morning wore on and the hour of the meeting approached the crowd swelled as more demonstrators turned up

The BBC outside broadcast van in the car park. News of the meeting were carried throughout the day on BBC London with a live interview for the 18:30 evening broadcast

 

The majority of councillors ignored the wishes of the electorate and voted to proceed with a scheme that Welwyn Hatfield MP (and now senior Conservative party member) Grant Shapps publicly declared was "madness" years before. However, the fight against it is far from over.
